Our church's story

St. Paul’s Syrian Orthodox Church began in 2000. The congregation, initially known as St. Paul’s Syriac Mission in Delaware County, PA, worshipped in various temporary locations before acquiring its first property in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia. This marked a new chapter in the mission’s growth, providing a dedicated space for worship and community life. The church steadily expanded, guided by strong pastoral leadership and the commitment of its members to worship, evangelism, and mission work in the name of Jesus Christ.

In 2010, through the grace of God and the determination of its faithful, St. Paul’s acquired its current home on Glendale Road in Havertown, which was consecrated by Archbishop Mor Titus Yeldho. Since then, the church has flourished, becoming a vibrant spiritual and cultural center for Syrian Orthodox Christians in the region. Over its 25 years, St. Paul’s has been shaped by the dedication of its clergy, the unity of its members, and the prayers of its wider church leadership. Today, it stands as a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and community, poised to continue its mission for generations to come

OUR PATRON SAINTS

Our church's center Altar is dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The leftmost Altar is dedicated to St. Mary the Theotokos (the Mother of God). The rightmost Altar is dedicated to St. Gregorios of Malankara, the first canonized saint declared in the Syrian Orthodox Church from India. Let their lives be to us an example of how to grow closer to God, and may their intercessions always protect us.
